September 23 & 24, 2011, How Does Your Engine Run? The Alert Program for Self-Regulation, Presented by: Mary Sue
Williams & Sherry Shellenberger, AOTA Approved Provider (12.75 Contact Hours (1.2 AOTA CEUs, AOTA Classification Code
Category 2, Occupational Therapy Process).
"If your body is like a car engine, sometimes it runs on high, sometimes it runs on low, and
sometimes it runs just right." When therapists, teachers, or parents use these simple words to begin the Alert Program,
they enter an exciting adventure with children. The journey unfolds easily with the program's clearly defined steps for teaching
self-regulation awareness. The Alert Program assists children who have learning disabilities and attention problems (as well
as typical children) to understand the basic theory of sensory integration related to arousal states. Through the program,
children learn a repertoire of strategies that enhance their abilities to learn, interact with others, and work or play.
Children not only learn to monitor their level of alertness, but improve in self-esteem and self-confidence. If children are
intellectually challenged or developmentally younger than the age of eight, the program's concepts can be utilized by staff to
facilitate optimal functioning. Join us in this practical workshop and learn specific methods that can be incorporated
easily into therapeutic & educational programs.
Register by September 2, 2011 and save $55. To register, visit
http://www.AlertProgram.com or call Toll-Free 877-897-3478.

October 13 and 14th, 2011 - Oakville, Ontario, Sensory Processing in School, Home and Community: How to Make
the Best of Every Moment Presented by: REACH Therapy Services, Presenter: Winnie Dunn, PhD, OTR, FAOTA
Dr. Winnie Dunn will be presenting a 2-day workshop to help therapists, parents and
educators better understand how to translate the sensory needs of children whose sensory
processing patterns interfere with daily life into practical everyday plans in the home,
school and community. Participants will be able to understand core sensory processing
concepts and how to explain them to others; construct plans based on
sensory patterns, and employ evidence-based strategies when caring
for children with sensory processing challenges.
Winnie Dunn, PhD, OTR, FAOTA is Professor and Chair of Occupational Therapy
Education, School of Allied Health, University of Kansas. She has
provided services in public schools for the last two decades using
many innovative strategies. She has also conducted federal grants
that investigate the service provision needs in educational
settings. Dr. Dunn has provided many continuing education
experiences to help service providers design effective services, and
has been particularly active in working on integrated service
provision and full inclusion programs. She has written extensively
in the areas of service provision and the use of consultation as a
viable service provision option. She was an author of both the
School Systems and Early Intervention Guidelines from the American
Occupational Therapy Association.
Dr. Dunn is Faculty Emeritus of Sensory Integration International, and taught
many of the early courses in sensory integration theory, and test
administration and interpretation. She is the author of the Sensory
Profile, Infant/Toddler Sensory Profile, the Sensory Profile School
Companion and co-author of the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile,
which characterize children's and adult's responses to sensory
events in everyday life. Dr. Dunn has recently published her new
book, "Living Sensationally."
This workshop will be of primary interest to occupational therapists, teachers,
psychologists, behavioral therapists, speech language pathologists,
educational assistants, and of course parents and guardians of
children whose sensory processing patterns interfere with daily
life. Other health care professionals who serve these children may
also want to attend this workshop. Registrants may attend Thursday,
or Friday or both days.
